Together Arsenal

Middlesbrough 1 Arsenal 2

I travelled all the way up to Middlesbrough on bank holiday Monday to watch the game. Despite being on the back end of a 3-0 loss at Palace, I remained optimistic that we would perform well. Near 3000 Away fans travelled up to the game. All of the fans were in loud voices as the game started, getting behind the players and forgetting the recent bad performances. The rain was pouring down and the players were sliding all over the place.

Arsenal took first blood through Alexis Sanchez’s perfectly floated free kick into the top left hand corner. Arsenal led 1-0 at half time. Middlesbrough scored quick from the kick off through Negredo, the Arsenal fans became anxious that the teams defence would start to fall apart. We were all proven wrong as the players kept fighting and pressing Middlesbrough. Some great play saw Ramsey control the ball for Ozil who smashed the ball in the back of the net.

The Arsenal fans were electric! Getting right behind the players from the kick off. The players must of noticed as they showed their appreciation at the end of the game by coming over and thanking the fans with smiling faces. We can still fight for fourth even though it’s going to be a tough ask. Now we look forward to the FA Cup semi final against Manchester City on Sunday.

Crystal Palace 3 Arsenal 0

Unfixable, spineless performance once again. Not the first time we have conceded 3 goals away from home. It’s now become clear that the fans have now turned on the players as you hear them sing, ‘You’re not fit to wear the shirt’. The Arsenal fans not giving their own player (Bellerin) the ball back after it went into the stands.

Chief executive Ivan Gazidis was watching on from the stands. Wenger refusing to talk about his future after the game as it would be ‘inconvient’. Palace started the night just above the relegation zone and looked far more like a team aiming for the top four than we did.

We managed to have 72% possession without a shot on target in the second half. A group of players with so much talent and potential not performing and working for each other. Since January we have let in three goals at; Chelsea, Bournemouth, Liverpool, West Brom, Palace and five in Munich. This shows a team that can’t defend.

The issue of a new contract for the manger and other players in the team has disturbed the whole running of this football club. There is no justification for giving Arsene Wenger a new deal. The club needs change from head to toe. This end of this season can’t come soon enough.

What is left to fight for this season?

It’s coming up to the end of the season, with only 10 matches in the Premier League left to play. Arsenal are currently sitting in 6th, 1 place of the Europa League and 2 places off Champions League qualification. Arsenal have still got to play Tottenham, Manchester United and Everton before the end of the season. Being 18 points off the leaders at the beginning of March is not good enough. Arsenal have finished in the top 4 for 20 consecutive seasons. Arsenal spent over 100 million on players over the summer. So what needs changing? The club will lose out on a lot of money for not qualifying in any major European competitions.

Arsenal still have the FA Cup to play for, we play Manchester City at Wembley on the 23rd of April. To win the FA cup again would be a great achievement and an occasion for the fans to celebrate after a dull second half of the season. The club has reached Wembley 3 out of the past 4 seasons in this competition. The fans want more than just the FA cup, we want to be competing for the Premier League and in Europe. I personally feel as if the club needs a fresh start and the end of the season can’t come soon enough.

Liverpool 3 Arsenal 1

Another disappointing result, its now becoming a common occurrence. Just watching our team collapse at every big away game. The mood was already set even before kick off as we found out Alexis Sanchez had been dropped. Speaking on behalf of everyone, we were all shocked that he was on the bench. A little glimmer of hope that we could sneak a result was still there.

Kick Off, Liverpool looked dangerous from the get go and already we looked slow. It didn’t take long, 9 minutes and Firmino had scored. It was vital to get the first goal. But we go again. In the 40th minute Mane made it 2-0, looking like game over. Our main game used to be controlling the possession for most of the match, that’s what Arsenal football club is renound for. 57% to Liverpool and 43% to Arsenal is how the first half ended.

The second half started and Arsenal needed to score early to have a chance of getting back into the game. Sanchez came on straight from half time. Arsenal were instantly playing better football and were starting to create chances. Welbeck managed to grab a goal back in the 57th minute, hope was revived. Then came the peculiar substitution. Welbeck and Giroud were replaced by Perez and Walcott. Taking nothing away from those two but Giroud and Welbeck are match winners.

Nothing was working for Arsenal and the clock was ticking down. Arsenal had no option but to throw everyone forward. In the 91st minute Liverpool countered and settled the match 3-1 Wijnaldum. Our club is in a bad place at the moment, with the top four slipping away. What changes are going to take place if any? Are Sanchez and Ozil going to leave or stay?

Liverpool Arsenal 4/3/17

Arsenal take on Liverpool at Anfield on gameweek 27. The Gunners didn’t fair well against Liverpool on the opening day of the season. Without Koscienly and Mustafi we were physically unprepared for that game where we lost 4-3 at the Emirates. It’s time to get our revenge, we must win after having two week off. We should be mentally prepared for what’s going to be a tough game. With Manchester United closing in, 3 points is vital in the search for Champions League football next season.

Sutton United 0 Arsenal 2

Historic night for Sutton United, getting through to the fifth round and facing the mighty Arsenal. A sold out ground with a great atmosphere, welcoming the Gunners. Sutton started the game well and made Arsenal aware that they were up for this match. Arsenal had to use there fast paced passing around the pitch in search of a goal.

In the 26th minute deadlock was broken, with a quick counter from one end of the pitch to the other. Perez curled a shot into the bottom corner. Sutton were holding their own and the half time score was 1-0 to Arsenal.

The second half started with Chamberlain coming on for Elneny. Sutton had a great chance which they unfortunately hit the bar. Arsenal were in search for the second goal to guarantee there place in the next round of the cup. In the 55th minute Iwobi crossed and set up Walcott for his 100th Arsenal goal.

The full time result was 2-0 to the Gunners. Arsenal will host Lincoln City in the quarter finals at the Emirates, another memorable tie to be. One more round away from Wembley. Come on boys!

Sutton United Arsenal 20/02/17

When the Sutton United fans saw the Arsenal ball being drawn out of the FA cup they knew they were in for a historical day. Non-league Sutton United host Arsenal at Gander Green Lane which has the capacity of 5,013. It’s going to be a real reality check for these Arsenal players entering the old school dressing rooms, hopefully they come out and prove themselves on the pitch and most of all fight for the manager and fans. Sutton will be up for this game, I’m really looking forward to it.

Potential successors to Arsene Wenger

It’s starting to look like it’s coming to the end of the Arsene Wenger era at Arsenal. A new two year deal is still on the table but he will make a decision in the coming months whether he will stay or move on. Wenger has been at Arsenal since 1996 and has won 15 honours with the club. He is one of the most consistent managers of all time and has helped the club get to where they are now.

If Wenger does leave, we need a replacement of a high level. Here are a few of the potential successors I would like at Arsenal;

Massimiliano Allegri – Top tactician for Juventus and could attract top players. My current favourite to take over. Rivalry against Conte at Chelsea would be immense.

Jorge Sampaoli – Developed great football with his Sevilla squad. May lead them to top 3. Has worked with Sanchez for Chile but is a favourite for the Barcelona job.

Thomas Tuchel – Good philosophies. Developing some of the best young talent in Europe at Dortmund. However, his teams have shown frailties similar to Arsenal’s.

Diego Simeone – Tough, tactician, leader of men. Has helped Atletico Madrid become a consistent force in La Liga and the Champions League. However, his defensive style may be a deal breaker.

Luis Enrique – Has won the treble with Barcelona in 2014/15. Can be controversial tactically and has come under fire as the Barca boss. Maybe a fresh start will do him good. Has proven himself.

Comment below who you would like to take over at Arsenal after Wenger.

Bayern Munich 5 Arsenal 1

Struggling to write this blog is an understatement. The disappointment that all Arsenal fans feel is heartbreaking. We showed up in Munich with high hopes that just maybe this is the time we show Bayern that we’re a big club and we can compete in this competition. The match started with Bayern dominating possession and it paid off as Robben scored a beauty outside the edge of the box 11 minutes in.

Arsenal had to respond, they pressed Bayern on the counter. From a corner, Koscienly managed to get his body in front of Lewandowski who gave away a penalty. A glimpse of hope for Arsenal as Sanchez stepped up. SAVED by Neuer, but Sanchez was persistent to score the second rebound. Arsenal took a 1-1 draw into the second half as things were looking up.

Just as Arsenal fans thought that we had a chance, our captain Koscienly suffered a hamstring injury and was replaced by Gabriel. This was the point where maybe Arsenal fans looked away. 53rd minute 2-1 Lewandowski, 56th minute 3-1 Thiago, 63rd minute 4-1 Thiago, GAME OVER. The team collapsed with no spirit, passion or care in the world. From there on the game was an embarrassment and when things couldn’t get any worse 88th minute Muller, 5-1 FT.

The final result could of been worse if it wasn’t for Ospina making some great saves during the game. Unfortunately our midfield and defence weren’t up to the match of the Bayern players which led to us hitting the self destruct button. Why Wenger didn’t start with Welbeck instead of Iwobi I don’t know. They attacked Iwobi and Gibbs all night and nothing changed. Bringing on Walcott was pointless and the whole tactical management of the game was poor.

After this performance Wenger really needs to consider his future and what is best for Arsenal football club because we are not going anywhere. Same old results every season, no development. I respect everything Wenger has done for the club and it will be sad to see him go but the fans have had enough.
